Easy-to-Make Decor for Pretty Fall Porch

Fall is my favorite time of the year. But because I love to garden, I wanted to find a way to bring the garden ‘look’ into the fall season. With summer over and all my flowers and hanging baskets down, things were looking a little bare around my front door, so I relish the opportunity to make decor for pretty Fall porch.

As you put your garden stuff away, you might want to keep one or more planters available. Here’s a little craft project that is quick and easy to do using what you already have on hand.

Time commitment: 1/2 hour or less

Materials You’ll Need:

1 large planter or urn

Pine cones

Leaves: real or artificial

Centerpiece–pumpkin, owl, lantern (candle or fake candle optional)

mini lights or battery fairy lights

Step 1

Choose a planter or urn to use. You don’t even have to remove the dirt as it won’t show. In fact, it’s best if you don’t because you won’t have to use as much material to fill in. It’ll make a little bit go a lot farther.

Step 2

Add something to set the centerpiece on. I used a short piece of log. It’s just sitting on top. Use whatever you’ve got that will work…wood block, a sturdy plastic container etc.

Step 3

This is the fun part. Use real leaves or a strand of artificial leaves to wrap around the edge of the planter. Use both if you prefer! (Note: If you are using a string of electric mini lights, add them here)

Fill in the center with pine cones.

Add fairy lights. (Note: battery operated mini lights are preferred so there’s no power cord that could be a tripping hazard) Battery mini lights are available at craft stores like Michaels and even Lowes. Or buy online from Amazon.com/mini fairy lights.

Stuff straw (or artificial straw) under the leaves around the edges.

Add your centerpiece of choice. That could be a real jack-o-lantern or artificial pumpkin, owl, a lantern with candle.

Some final thoughts

Is your front porch looking a little bare in the absence of summer’s flowers? Then put those planters right back into use as decor for pretty Fall porch.

To compliment your display, why not add a bouquet or two of Fall foliage from the park, woods or meadows around your home? I’ve found that once picked, things last a bit longer when left outside in the cool air. Here’s a link for inspiration from my blog: Make a Rustic Fall Bouquet. 1. Awesome fall decoration ideas! I’m not ready for autumn, but here it is. I found that my plate “mummy” I put together last year fits perfectly inside a decorative lantern. I’m going to put some string lights in with it along with some other Halloween-ish pieces. I’ll send you photos when I get it all together. As always, thanks for the inspiration!
